Once upon a time luxury cars surprised with their prices: Great opportunity in second hand

Stability has changed in the global car market. Luxury cars, which for a while appealed only to high-income groups, came to the fore with significant losses in value in the second-hand market. It has been observed that many models, whose new prices reached 100 thousand dollars, found buyers in the 20 thousand dollar range today. The same situation also attracted attention in electric cars.

While activity in the car market was expected to increase at the beginning of the new year, some brands experienced sharp price losses. A valuable portion of luxury cars, which were once carefully displayed in showcases and attracted attention with their high prices, are now on the second-hand market. Research has revealed that many models that were sold for jaw-dropping prices in the past have lost significant value in a short time.

A 100 THOUSAND DOLLAR VEHICLE DECREASED TO 20 THOUSAND DOLLARS

According to market analysis, it was stated that some luxury models that were once sold for approximately 100 thousand dollars can now be found at around 20 thousand dollars. Moreover, this situation is not limited to just a few models. Luxury sedans, SUVs and performance-oriented vehicles have suffered a wide range of depreciations in the second-hand market.

RANGE ROVER FEATURED

According to CarEdge information, a 2026 model Nissan Versa is expected to lose 38 percent of its value in five years, while the Toyota Camry showed a relatively better performance with a 36 percent decrease in the same period. However, the picture was much more striking in luxury SUVs. It was said that a 2026 model Range Rover lost approximately 74 percent of its initial investment after five years.

According to experts, Range Rover was just one of the most striking examples in this segment. It was noted that the low-mileage standard or Sport versions with body code L322, along with the V8 engine options developed by Jaguar, found buyers around 20 thousand dollars.

GERMAN SUVS AND SEDANS COULD NOT PROTECT THEIR VALUES

A similar situation emerged in the luxury models of German car manufacturers. In particular, it was observed that the Mercedes-Benz G-Class models produced in the late 2000s lost significant value in the second-hand market. It was stated that these vehicles, which were once sold at prices approaching 100 thousand dollars, are now offered for sale for less than 20 thousand dollars, depending on the equipment level.

The same was true for upper segment sedans such as Audi S8, BMW M5 and Jaguar XJ X351. It was reported that low-mileage examples, especially of the supercharged V6 engine versions, were below the 20 thousand dollar band second-hand.

MASERATI COULD NOT ESCAPE FROM THE LIST

Maserati, one of the brands that come to mind when it comes to luxury cars, was among the models that lost value. It was mentioned that low mileage versions of Quattroporte M139 body code vehicles produced between 2003 and 2012 can be found in this price range. It was noted that the more contemporary versions with the M151 case code have suffered a significant loss in value today, although they were sold for prices close to 100 thousand dollars eight years ago.

THE TABLE IS NOT DIFFERENT IN ELECTRIC VEHICLES.

The price loss experienced in the luxury segment also manifested itself in electric cars. Although electric vehicles compete with their fuel and diesel rivals, falling demand and hesitancy in the second-hand market have brought prices down.

Tesla Model S was cited as an example of this situation. It was stated that a relatively low mileage Model S, which has been used for approximately 69 thousand miles, is offered for sale for less than 20 thousand dollars. It was reported that the exact model was found in some galleries for 19 thousand 500 dollars.

HARD DECLINE IN PORSCHE TAYCAN

A similar trend has been observed in newer generation electric cars. It was stated that the 2021 model, medium mileage versions of the Porsche Taycan were sold for less than half of the list prices of 100 thousand dollars.
