Czech brand Skoda, which was once seen as an “affordable alternative” in the car world and was frequently the subject of ridicule, has today turned into an automotive phenomenon that shakes the throne of the giants. The brand, which is rapidly rising within the Volkswagen (VW) Cluster, has proven with its 2025 data that it is not just a subsidiary, but the most profitable and fastest growing player of the cluster.
Skoda achieved a historic success in Germany, the heart of Europe, reaching a market share of 8.0%. The brand, which achieved 210 thousand sales in the first eleven months of 2025, is about to close the gap with premium giants such as BMW and Mercedes-Benz.
Germany’s most popular inspiration brand for 17 years
Skoda, which has been Germany’s most preferred imported brand for 17 years, is now perceived by consumers as a “local German brand”.
Even though electric transformation is at the door, Skoda’s heart still beats with its legendary model Octavia. Octavia, seen as the larger and more practical version of the VW Golf, maintained its leadership by selling more than 41 thousand units in the first 11 months of the year. It is followed by the Kodiaq and Karoq models, which are the pioneers of the brand’s SUV offensive.
New electric vehicle was chosen as the car of the year 2026 in Germany
Elroq, the freshest representative of Skoda’s electric vision, won the title of “2026 German Car of the Year”, although it is now available for sale in the spring. The most striking feature of Elroq, which ranked second in its segment with more than 22 thousand orders, was that it stole (conquered) 75% of its customers from other brands.
Skoda’s success is greeted with mixed feelings in Wolfsburg, the headquarters of the Volkswagen Cluster. Skoda; With its Superb, Enyaq and Octavia models, it not only attracts customers from outside, but also attracts VW’s entrenched Passat, Tiguan and Golf crowd. The fact that Skoda is the most efficient brand of the cluster with a profitability rate of 8% intensifies the internal competition against the 2% profitability of the main brand VW.
Skoda is preparing to declare its dominance in the electric vehicle market in 2026:
Skoda Epiq:With a starting price of 25,000 Euros, it will usher in the “accessible electric” era for families.
New Flagship (Vision 7S):The 5-meter-long giant crossover will offer a range of 600 kilometers with its 89 kWh battery and will be the technology showcase of the brand with its 200 kW fast charging support.
Skoda, which is pushing for the top in Europe, compensates for the contraction in the Chinese market with new geographies. The brand, which is approaching the sales threshold of 50 thousand units with local production in India, has recently strengthened its identity as a global player by entering the Saudi Arabian market.
Analysts agree that Skoda will be the safest port of the VW Cluster in the future with this high profitability and market diversity.
