The historical rise in gram gold prices has brought the price of Trabzon mat to its peak. Trabzon wicker, which stands out with its handcrafting and high weight, is now talked about not only as a piece of jewelry but also as an investment tool competing with car prices. Latest numbers show that some models are approaching the prices of Audi, Mercedes and BMW.

Trabzon mat flew away
The increase in gold prices has turned the Trabzon mat, which was once worn at weddings, into a price comparable to “house money” or “luxury car price”. Jewelers stated that the prices, especially for multi-row wicker sets, have now reached levels that are difficult to reach.

Numbers reached millions
Ali Yazıcı, President of Trabzon Chamber of Jewelers and Watchmakers, said that in this period when gram gold was traded at the level of 6 thousand 250 TL, the price of a group of Trabzon wicker bracelets started from 600 thousand TL, and the numbers for special orders reached millions.

Its price competes with Audi, Mercedes and BMW…
Yazıcı said, “Especially when the 61-row and 81-row Trabzon wicker frames are evaluated together with the necklace, ring and earrings, the total cost can start from 3 million TL and go up to 6 million TL.” Prices at these levels have brought the Trabzon mat to a point where it competes with the prices of luxury cars such as Audi, Mercedes and BMW today. It is said that due to increasing costs, wicker jewelry is not preferred at weddings as much as it used to be, and has become more of an investment or special order piece.

Yazıcı stated that purchases increase when gold prices rise, and sales come to the fore during periods of decline, and that gold exchange processes become heavier, especially in November and December.

Yazıcı said that 2025 did not bring the expected activity in terms of the jewelery department in the domestic market, and added that there is a more positive picture in exports. He stated that according to the Ministry’s information, jewelry exports, which were 7.5 billion dollars in 2024, reached 12.5 billion dollars as of October 2025.

Noting that the export share in Trabzon mat and kazaziye works is approximately 30 percent, Yazıcı said, “Sales in the domestic market are weak, but the demand for bullion, Cumhuriyet and quarter gold for investment purposes is increasing.”
