SHENYANG, Dec. 24 (Xinhua) — BMW has started trial production of Neue Klasse type electric vehicles, which it has integrated into its latest technological innovation system, at its factory in Shenyang, the center of China’s northeastern Liaoning province.
The long-wheelbase BMW iX3 model represents the company’s core strategy on electrification and digitalisation. The company is ready to start mass production of the model, which is currently in trial production, next year.
BMW will start supplying batteries to the vehicles in question as of 2026, with the sixth generation power battery project in which it has invested a total of 10 billion yuan (approximately 1.4 billion US dollars).
BMW Brilliance Technology and Production Senior Deputy Leader Michele Melchiorre emphasized that the new model, which combines global engineering excellence with local innovation, reflects the factory’s commitment to quality and sustainability.
BMW, which wants to improve battery production and artificial intelligence integration, has cooperated with Chinese partners such as CATL and Alibaba. All these initiatives aim to provide a smart driving experience designed specifically for China’s roads.
BMW’s base in Shenyang uses electricity produced entirely from renewable sources, in line with its green production goals. Geothermal heating has also been introduced to further reduce carbon emissions.
During the production process, where advanced technologies including more than 200 artificial intelligence analyzes are used, the artificial intelligence-based visual control system guarantees precision by detecting even the smallest defects in real time.
China, which is the largest market in the world for the BMW X3, continues to be a strategic focus for the company. Total investment in BMW’s production facility in Shenyang has exceeded 116 billion yuan since 2010.
